We now have a web page for this cute little centre, the original village shopping centre of Wendywood. Located between Daphne and Wendy Roads just off Western Service Road, it houses all the shops a neighbourhood needs. If you wondered where Morningside Butchery went when the old Morningside Shopping Centre on Rivonia Road was demolished, the answer is "here". There's also an all-hours KwikSpar, a friendly and dedicated Optometrist (get your eyes tested before driving off on holiday?), Hilton's Car Sound, a Dry Cleaners and Drapers that supplies school uniforms and sportswear for all the schools in the area, Chinese massage, a night club, and even a shop selling naughty magazines and things.

Canto Latino, Rivonia Square, Rivonia
This is a new restaurant and replaces Prima Piatti. It is very different from the former. No smoking is permitted in either the main fine dining side of the restaurant or on the patio. Smoking is allowed in the Tapas Bar. The food is primarily Spanish/Portuguese and the wine list includes wines from Chile, Portugal and South Africa. We were made to feel welcome from the first moment of our arrival and found a table in the fine dining section of the restaurant by Mike. We did not have a starter but opted to share the Pierna de Cordero – a beautifully cooked lamb shank with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. The meat melted in the mouth! Perfectly seasoned with rosemary, it was a joy. The vegetables were excellent. I chose the Lancers Rose, a petillant wine, dry and served well chilled.
We completed a very elegant meal with a Mango Gateau, pronounced good by Rick, and coffee. What made this meal a real pleasure – the best music around! Tangos and other sultry music that brought romance to the evening. I would really recommend Canto Latino fine dining for that special night out.

- Ocean Basket on Rivonia Boulevard closed a while ago. Pity: we enjoyed it. A new one is due to open in the Morning Glen Mall (Upper Level) on Kelvin Drive and Bowling Avenue in the New Year.

At the Checkout...
I was signing for my credit card purchase when the till operator noticed I had never signed my name on the back of the credit card. She told me that she could not complete the transaction unless the card was signed. When I asked why, she explained that it was necessary to compare the signature I had just signed on the receipt. So I signed the credit card in front of her. She carefully compared the signature to the one I had just signed on the receipt. Fortunately, they matched.

Correction
In the last newsletter we referred to "Morningside Pharmacy" in Morning Glen Mall –wrong of course! It's Manor Pharmacy (correctly shown on the web page). Morningside Pharmacy is in the new Morningside Shopping Centre, and its sister, Morningside Dispensary, is in the The Wedge, Morningside.
