Welcome to Cramerview Village:

Megaplex's coverage of useful information on shopping centres in Sandton and Bryanston continues to expand.  This month we added Cramerview Village. This is a neighbourhood shopping centre in Main Road, Bryanston, a block north of Sandton Clinic (Mediclinic Sandton), close to the Free Market Foundation.  The centre has a Total filling station, a mix of shops including a 7-11 supermarket, a pub and its bottle store, and several restaurants.

The restaurants include Fisherman's Kitchen (offering freshly prepared seafood including that well-known seabird: chicken) and Amici Pizzeria for typical Italian food. French Corner serves breakfasts, light meals, coffee, and pastries. The delightfully-named Tealiscious is a tea garden in the adjacent passage. Barrels & Bottles is the Pub and Grill. Katjushas Elegant Lounge Cocktail Bar & Restaurant is located on the back parking lot.

Other useful services include a pool shop, picture framing, nail bar, skin treatments, hairdressers, men's barber, fruit shop, florist and gifts, stationery and copy shop, travel agent, ballet school, maths and science tuition, ATMs, tattoos, dentists and oral hygienist, optometrist, and an appliance repair service.

Restaurant Review by Judith Back to top

*** The Green Peppercorn, Morningside Shopping Centre

The menus have now been pasted into books - sad loss of the opening to the story, but a useful resource if the service is slow!  We dropped in for lunch and made some mistakes.  We should have asked for the beverage menu as the ordered Ceylon tea was indeed Ceylon but an exotic black tea and not the one expected.  The glass of red wine, however, was more than acceptable.

I ordered the Bone Marrow and had to go through exactly what I didn't want with it, so ended up with salsa.  The marrow was very good indeed and gloriously messy.  It should have been served with a finger bowl!

The cheddar omelette was a big disappointment.  Service by Llyod (is his name spelt right on the till slip?) was good.  I did ask about the restaurant being more Banting friendly and was told that their attempt was a complete failure.  The fact that the steak was being served with polenta may be the reason.  I did point out that this is not a Banting choice.

It's a pity.  This restaurant used to be so good.

Funny Language, English...

Sign seen by Judith in a municipal toilet: "Wash your hands before eating and feeding children"

Surely you feed them first and then eat them? But seriously, don't people look at what they are writing?

Enjoy It While You've Got It

Julius decided to try a new Psychiatrist, who asked: "Do any of your family suffer from mental illness?"
"No, they all seem to enjoy it."

Green Tip:   Back to top

Most of the litter that people drop in the street, or thoughtlessly toss out of cars, gets washed into the stormwater drains and thence into our rivers like the Braamfontein Spruit and the Sandspruit.  There it makes the banks unsightly and, if nobody picks it up, it washes down into the lake of Hartbeespoort Dam. Eventually it may end up in the sea, where vast areas are now covered in floating human-made pollution.

What is so difficult about not littering? Just keep your rubbish until you get home or find a rubbish bin, then put it in the bin. If you see others littering, educate them.  This is your country and your planet: Treat it as your home and look after it!
