Changes at Morning Glen Mall

The revamp of Morning Glen Mall is now in full swing.  The upper level east section where Spur, Pizza and Burger Perfect, and Manor Pharmacy were, has been gutted.  It looks like we will be getting a Food Lovers' Market here, which should give Pick 'n Pay 'n Pay 'n Pay a run for your money.

Spur and Burger Perfect closed. Manor Pharmacy, you will recall, moved to Morning View and has been replaced by a pharmacy in the Clicks downstairs. Pizza Perfect has reincarnated as The Pizza Bar in Sunninghill Village, as mentioned below.

Vilai-Lai Thai Massage has moved to opposite Capitec Bank, while 4give Nail and Beauty Clinic has moved to the middle of the upper level.  Capmor Stationers is unmoved, just somewhat hidden behind a hoarding, as is Natural Effects Hair Design.

Most of the toilets have been revamped. The long out-of-order central lift has been removed entirely, leaving only one lift (opposite Pappadums Indian Restaurant) accessible.

We await further changes with interest.

• Pizza Perfect has moved from Morning Glen Mall and become The Pizza Bar in Sunninghill Village – Fast food: Pizzas, pasta, subs (submarine sandwiches), salads, and soft drinks.
• Morningside 011 by the Baron has become Jozi Gin Local Eatery, Shop 29, Lower Level in The Wedge, Morningside – Upmarket eatery and gin bar in the "industrial style".
• De La Terra Kitchen replaces Buon Umore in Shop 02 in The Core Sunninghill – Italian Restaurant and Catering. Italian, Mediterranean, Portuguese cuisine. Functions.

**** Shawnee Spur Steak Ranch, Chilli on Top Shopping Centre, Sunninghill

Our waitress was Precious and she was very good. One disappointment was the lack of Rump steak for the Seniors' menu - listed but not available. I had a pepper burger instead with spinach and my partner had ribs. To drink he tried Castle Free (it isn't really free!) whilst I had D'Aria Sauvignon Blanc. I received my birthday discount. The view across the valley is one really good reason for going to this restaurant!

**** Ri'stretto Al Fresco Cucina, Ri'vonia Road, Morningside

A return after a long break! This is a very child friendly restaurant and it was alive with little ones! Drink choices were Brampton Sauvignon Blanc and Castle Free (still not gratis!). To eat, I chose the spicy chicken livers and my partner a California pizza. The chicken livers proved so spicy that I took half home for later! We now are carrying a box for my leftovers!  Prince gave great service.

With the election past, we wait with bated breath for Eskom to resume Load Shedding... In today's power failure in Morningside, Eskom's call centre agent felt obliged to stress that it was "not Load Shedding".

Election Over, Now What?

The People have spoken (those who bothered to register and vote, anyway).

A majority of those voted the ANC back into power.  We may conclude that most are quite happy with sewage flowing in the streets and the rivers, while the plundering of state coffers for personal gain continues unabated.  "Cadre deployment", now known as "state capture" has been party policy since the beginning, and this leopard does not change its spots.

Expect the people who voted the same old ANC back in, to be out on the streets soon protesting about the same old lack of service delivery.  One of the definitions of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

In last night's Cabinet announcement, President Ramaphosa dropped some of the worst of Zuma's enablers, and trimmed the number of ministries somewhat, leaving "only" 57 ministers and deputies.  By contrast, the USA, with over six times our population, manages with a Cabinet of just 17 members.
