Visiting Bryanston: Cramerview Village
Cramerview Village is a popular and long-standing neighbourhood shopping
centre in Main Road, Bryanston, a block North of Sandton Clinic (Mediclinic
Sandton). The centre has a Total filling station, a mix of shops including a
supermarket and a bottle store, and several restaurants.
The centre consists of several blocks with separate entrances to the upstairs
floor suites, and passages through to the more extensive parking at the back.
Parking is free and adequate, all in the open, with some trees for shade.
There is no access control. There is parking in front of the shops, and a larger
parking area at the back, with vehicle access around the northern (right-hand)
side of the centre.
Much had changed there since our previous visit in March 2023, as you can see
in the
New Shops and
Shops Closed sections
below. Notably, half the restaurants have changed. Several
businesses that were in the back car park have left. There is now a thrift shop in
aid of welfare, and a cannabis lounge for members.

Shopping Centre: 277 Main Road, Bryanston, corner Curzon Road, Randburg.
Thought for the
Week:
Food is an important part of a balanced diet.
Do You Use Excel? Making Mistakes is Easy!
Finding errors is hard! But they can
kill your company! In 2012, a London Olympics employee accidentally
typed in “20,000” instead of “10,000". The Olympic Committee
then sold 10,000 tickets for non-existent seats at minor events. They had to upgrade them to major events
—at a loss.

The Free Market Foundation was
located in Bryanston near Cramerview Village.
It has moved to 21 Rockridge Road, Northwards House, Parktown, Johannesburg. The FMF is an independent, non-profit, public benefit organisation, created in 1975 by pro-free market business and civil society national bodies to work for a non-racial, free and prosperous South Africa. As a policy organisation it promotes sound economic policies and the principles of good law. As a think tank it seeks and puts forward solutions to some of the country’s most pressing problems: unemployment, poverty, growth, education, health care, electricity supply, and more. The FMF was instrumental in the post-apartheid negotiations and directly influenced the Constitutional Commission to include the property rights clause: a critical cornerstone of economic freedom.
**** "The Schwarma Co", 71 Grant Ave,
Norwood: Sat 9 November
This high-street venue is
popular: Particularly, it seemed, with men. The downstairs is small, but
there are also a covered deck and an open patio upstairs. One has to go through
both to get to
the toilets.
The system is almost a buffet: You choose the meat part of your
Schwarma, which they bring you, then you go to the counter to add the other ingredients from
over a dozen available.
For our lunch we chose to share a Lamb Schwarma platter, which was plenty for
the two of us elderly folk.
For drinks, I had an orange juice. My companion had
a lemonade, made on the premises.
Waitress Jennipha was helpful and attentive.
Charges: Lamb platter R240, orange juice R50, lemonade R35, Total before tip: R325
inc VAT.
The Schwarma Co Mediterranean / Middle-Eastern restaurant,
corner Grant Ave & William Road, Norwood, Johannesburg.
Open 07:00-21:00 daily. Phone 011
483 1776.
If you don't keep your appointment, does it become
a disappointment?
