Another New Shopping Centre!
In August ("A New Centre, OR What's in a Name?"),
we introduced you to Pinnacle Walk, the revamped, and now rebranded, old 90° on
Rivonia shopping centre. Now we have another one for you! Another
rebranding, that is...
River Club Shopping Centre which, not entirely coincidentally, was the only
shopping centre in River Club, has rebranded. As
Poplar-On-Park.
Located just off the Sycamore Road, it has a restaurant, a coffee shop, and
several other businesses. Apart from Nice on Poplar Restaurant, the main
draw card is the large
adjacent municipal park. Once upon a time there were post boxes, but these have
disappeared.
There are about two dozen open-air parking bays, all free of charge,
with no access control. Unusually, you are expected to reverse-park.
It's not said why.
Centre Management say, "Adjacent to the Riverclub Park (called Poplar-Park by the neighbourhood),
this community based lifestyle centre welcomes a diverse group of people from the Bryanston, Duxbury, Sandton, Morningside, Riverclub neighbourhoods and beyond. Our community comprises freelancers, business owners, parents, outdoor enthusiasts, animal lovers and passionate creatives. Our community is who we are here for.
"The new owner and the community have plans to re-purpose the centre and the park to become a unique, community focused life-style centre - called “Poplar-On-Park”. We have big dreams for the space and there is a lot the community can get involved with to make Riverclub the best neighbourhood."
The centre is also dog-friendly. Dogs are allowed (on leads of course)
except in the shops and the passageway.

Last month, we reviewed this
restaurant.
This month we went back with a minor complaint: You will recall from the review
that they charged for two ABC drinks when I had only one. They smartly
rectified that by not charging for the one we had this time, with no quibbles.
Due to the popularity of this venue, we wisely booked a lunchtime
table this time. We were offered two tables and chose one out of
the way, because we had brought the dogs. Yes, they welcome dogs,
and there were several others.
For drinks, I had a "Detox" (pineapple, apple, carrot and strong ginger
juice), which was good. My companion had the ABC (apple, beetroot and carrot
juice) this time.
We wanted something small for lunch, so we shared a dish, which worked
out well..
Service was again helpful and attentive.
