Business Tip: Hidden Google Chrome Dinosaur Game
The Google Chrome browser contains all sorts of hidden gems. Here's one we
found. If you lose your internet connection, Chrome displays the message
"There is no Internet connection" and a graphic of what looks like a
dinosaur. Instead of cursing your ISP and bashing your head on the desk (as
one is inclined to do in these circumstances), calm down with a short game:
Press the "Up arrow" key. The dinosaur figure starts frantically running to
the right as the landscape scrolls to the left, with cactuses appearing
singly or in groups. Using the "Up arrow" key, make the dinosaur figure
jump over the cacti. The game ends when it collides with one:
Once you have relaxed a bit, the option below that, "Try Running Windows
Network Diagnostics" may well work to restore the Internet connection.

Simple email Marketing Course: "Make it a Habit"
Habits. Hard to break (bad ones!), hard to make
(good ones!). Steven Covey talked about the habits of highly effective people.
We need to keep doing something regularly for a month at least before it becomes
a habit.
Referring to
last month’s email, how is the personal exercise programme going? Remember,
"One push-up at bedtime"?
Have you moved up yet to two, or even three...?
Then, we also talked about a business fitness programme: First thing in the
office, send a simple email to just one customer, thanking them for their
business. Did you keep it up for the month? Is it now a habit? Might that be
increasing business?
One of Steven Covey’s "Seven Habits" was “Sharpen the Saw”. By practising
writing to our customers daily, we are sharpening several saws:
-
Overcoming our fear of writing in public
(similar to the fear of speaking in public!)
-
Getting better at writing to a customer (it’s
fairly safe to write to just one, even if it is a badly-written email)
-
Staying front of mind with the customer
-
When anyone responds, finding out what they like
-
If you keep their email somewhere central,
building up your email list for when you feel confident to send mass emails.

Email
marketing seems too simple for a
real
entrepreneur. So
serious
businesses avoid it. Which is why a firm like Amazon.com can eat
high street businesses across the USA and UK. (Hint: Amazon is
the world's best email marketer. Main Street stores prefer media
advertising.)
Advertising in mass media does not work for small firms.
Too costly to produce and deliver. Not easy to count the
results.
I've never
seen direct marketing fail. Ever. And I've seen
it work in almost every industry.
The more complex
the sale the better email marketing works.

minute video: Why Use Email.
I've been
teaching direct marketing skills for almost 2 decades. I have a
short course on the subject that will get you started within
three hours.
This course is normally R1497.

I've
invested 6 months and hundreds of hours digging into the impact
POPI has on small businesses. POPI = Protection
of Information Act.
So have my IT guru and my legal specialist.
It's real. It's
coming. In Australia it lands in February. In
Europe it lands in May. Our crowd are a little slower.
Few of us grasp the full challenge this POPI Act poses to small
business.
How is the
personal info that
Hetzner holds (or
Uber or
London Bridge Plastic Surgery
different from the personal info you hold? Each
has reported massive data breaches this past month.
A few simple examples:
-
Doctorss
hold deeply private info about patients. Literally warts and
all.
-
Hotels
hold copies of lodgers' passports and IDs. Including enough
info to steal our identities.
-
Recruitment agencies
hold CVs with salary info, and employment history, and often
IDs.
-
Pharmacists
hold copies of prescriptions detailing all our embarrassing
issues.
-
Each of us
holds intimate business discussions in our email....
I would be just as peeved if my doctor lost some info that led
to my insurance firm cancelling my insurance or a bunch of
people being entertained on Instagram by photos of my
pre-surgery face.
Bottom line:
POPI says
small-business owners face the same robust demands to protect
personal information as big firms..
Ours is a unique collective approach to compliance which
combines the knowledge and experience of thousands of
small-business owners.
You get the best
POPI compliance available in SA for less than
the cost of an afternoon of training. Or your money back..
You save the hundreds of hours you must otherwise spend on
compliance issues. Instead your small investment allows us to
combine a few hours of your insight with that of thousands of
other small-business owners.
The end result is a lifetime programme to keep you compliant
with minimum effort needed.
The
current price of this
lifetime POPI compliance package
is normally a single payment of R24977. But today is Black Friday.
You get an instant R1000 discount if you
programme before midnight tonight. The price
will never be lower than this. |
